About iStore
iStore is an Australian-owned, family-run business headquartered at 10 Milly Ct, Malaga in Perth’s north, with more than 25 years in the solar industry. For a home solar system, iStore gives you a single-vendor option: a hybrid inverter, a modular battery, a backup gateway for blackouts and an EV charger, all monitored through the same cloud app.
The iStore products we install each have their own guide: iStore Battery. Our Battery Storage page explains how we approach the installation.
The iStore range we install

iStore Battery
The iStore battery is a modular LiFePO₄ stack that only works with a compatible iStore hybrid inverter, and the inverter you choose sets how far you can scale. One stack holds up to three modules (6.9, 13.8 or 20.7 kWh usable), and larger inverters let you parallel more stacks for up to 82.8 kWh.
Which iStore product do you need?
Here’s a quick way to think about it:
- If you want to store your solar and have the option of blackout backup, start with the iStore Battery. It scales from 5 kWh to 60 kWh, so you can match it to your overnight usage and add modules later.
- If you want full blackout backup as well, you’ll pair the battery with a compatible iStore hybrid inverter and an iStore backup gateway. We size and quote these as a package so the switching, isolation and essential-circuit wiring all work together.
- It’s a 7.4 kW single-phase unit with a 7 metre tethered Type 2 cable and can be set to use surplus solar when paired with an iStore inverter and smart meter.
Warranty and local support
iStore backs the solar inverters for 120 months (10 years) and the current S1 battery modules (IS-BATT-7000-S1, IS-BATT-14000-S1, IS-BATT-21000-S1) for 15 years with a 28.84 MWh throughput at 60% end-of-life. The EV charger carries a 3-year warranty from date of production and the backup gateway is covered for 24 months. For a claim to be valid you need to keep proof of purchase, and any replacement work must be done by a CEC-accredited installer who has completed iStore’s service training.
The battery warranty also requires the unit to stay connected to the iStore monitoring platform, and the battery must be installed within 31 days of purchase. Damage from lightning or power surges is excluded. Local phone support is on 08 9550 1585, 09:00 to 19:00 AWST Monday to Friday, and iStore commits to sending a replacement inverter within 10 business days of a confirmed fault.
The iStore app and monitoring
The iStore home range is managed through iStore’s cloud platform, Univers EMS. It gives you a clear view of solar production, home energy use and (where fitted) battery performance, with live consumption data and remote troubleshooting across your devices. Once the system is commissioned you’re eligible for a free trial of the premium Envision monitoring tier.
For EV charging, the app lets you control the charger remotely, review charging history and set the maximum operating current, and the charger connects over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. We walk you through the app on the day of install so you know how to read your charge level, your solar generation and your household usage.
Things to know before you buy
Pros
One brand across inverter, battery, backup gateway and EV charger, all managed through the same Univers EMS app
Modular battery that scales from 5 kWh to 60 kWh, so you can start smaller and add capacity later
Local head office and phone support in Malaga, WA, so warranty claims are handled onshore
10-year inverter warranty and 15-year battery warranty on the S1 modules
Things to consider
Backup needs a separate gateway, not just a battery. An iStore battery on its own will not power your home during a blackout. You need to add the iStore backup gateway (IS-BACKUP-1P-63A or IS-BACKUP-3P-63A), which powers selected essential circuits such as lighting, fridge, communications and security. Decide at the quote stage whether you want essential-circuits backup or not, because it affects the wiring plan.
The battery only works with an iStore hybrid inverter. If your existing inverter is a different brand, adding an iStore battery will usually mean changing the inverter at the same time. We check this during the switchboard and compatibility assessment so you know up front what the job involves.
Warranty depends on monitoring being connected. It is a condition of the battery warranty that the unit stays connected to the iStore monitoring platform. If your internet drops out for long periods, you need to reconnect it. Keep your proof of purchase as well, as it’s required to validate any claim.
Battery must be installed within 31 days of purchase. iStore requires the battery to be installed within 31 days of purchase to keep warranty terms intact. We book the install date before the hardware is ordered so this isn’t an issue.
Lightning and surge damage is excluded from warranty. Damage caused by lightning or power surges is not covered. In Perth storm season, a quality surge protection setup on the switchboard is worth discussing at the quote.
What an iStore installation involves
Site assessment and switchboard check
We visit the property to inspect the existing solar system, the switchboard and the space where the inverter, battery or EV charger would go. We check switchboard condition, available space and distance from the proposed equipment location, and flag any upgrade needed to accommodate the new hardware.
Compatibility and sizing
We confirm whether your existing inverter can run an iStore battery or whether an iStore hybrid inverter is needed, and we size the system around your actual usage pattern. If you’re planning the EV charger now or later, we factor that in so the inverter and switchboard are ready.
Backup wiring decision
If you want blackout backup, we talk through which circuits you want kept live (typically fridge, lights, communications, a couple of power points) and quote the iStore backup gateway with the appropriate wiring. Whole-home backup is possible on smaller loads but essential-circuits backup is the more common choice.
Installation day
Our technicians mount the inverter and battery in a shaded, ventilated position, install the isolators, route the cabling between the array, the inverter, the battery, the backup gateway and the switchboard, and tidy and label everything to standard.
Network approval and commissioning
The installation is documented and connected to meet Australian standards and Western Power’s network requirements for the Perth metropolitan area, with Synergy as the retailer. Commissioning is done to AS/NZS 5139 for the battery, with charge and discharge settings configured and the monitoring connected.
App walkthrough and aftercare
Before we leave, we show you how to read the Univers EMS app, explain what the display is telling you, and run through simple aftercare: keep the unit clear of obstructions, keep the monitoring connected (it’s a warranty condition), and book occasional health checks so any issues are picked up early.
iStore Perth questions we get asked
Is iStore an Australian company?
Yes. iStore is an Australian-owned, family-run business with its head office at 10 Milly Ct, Malaga in Western Australia. Local phone support runs 09:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday AWST.
Is iStore a good brand?
iStore is a credible choice for a Perth home if you want a single-vendor system where the inverter, battery, backup gateway and EV charger are designed to talk to each other through one app. Owners commonly point to the modular battery design and the breadth of the ecosystem as strengths; the main thing to be aware of is that backup during a blackout needs a separate backup gateway, and the battery only works with a compatible iStore hybrid inverter.
How does iStore work?
An iStore hybrid inverter sits between your solar panels, your switchboard and (optionally) an iStore battery. During the day solar runs the house and charges the battery; at night the battery discharges to cover your usage. If you add the iStore backup gateway, it isolates from the grid in a blackout and powers selected circuits from the battery and any available solar.
Is iStore made in Australia?
iStore is Australian-owned and headquartered in Malaga, WA, but the hardware itself is manufactured overseas. Local support, warranty handling and the service network are run from Australia, with WA phone support on 08 9550 1585.
Does the iStore 270 have WiFi?
For the iStore solar range, the single-phase hybrid inverter has built-in WLAN connectivity and the EV charger supports both Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
